Blackfalds RCMP says report of attempted child abduction was fake

The Blackfalds RCMP says a report of an alleged child abduction attempt was fabricated.

On Feb. 25, police received a report of a possible child abduction after the youth told their mother that someone in a white van had tried to abduct him before school.

Mounties say they learned after an investigation that the story had been made up and confirmed there is no threat to the public.

“The RCMP understands the effect such reports often found on social media have on a community,” as stated in a media release. “This is why we work quickly to determine the veracity of such reports in order to inform and protect the public while at the same time not causing unnecessary anxiety and fear.”
