In honour of the 20th anniversary of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, Para Hockey Alberta will be holding a free sledge hockey try it event on Saturday, Feb. 22 for those in Red Deer and area.

The event is set to run from noon to 1:15 p.m. at the G.H. Dawe Community Centre and all ages are welcome. All of the necessary equipment such as sleds, sticks, and protective gear will be provided along with instructions.

“As a valued Jumpstart partner, we are honoured to have Para Hockey Alberta join us in celebrating Jumpstart’s 20th anniversary celebration,” said Lindsey Crampton, Associate Vice-President, Community Operations & Chapter Engagement, Jumpstart. “By working hand-in-hand with our community partners, Jumpstart has been able to help build accessible and inclusive sports programming across Canada to make lasting and meaningful change in Canadian communities.”

They also invite the public to come watch some games on Saturday and Sunday at the Para Hockey Alberta Sledge Hockey tournament at the G.H. Dawe Community Centre.

Para hockey is open to both male and female able-bodied and disabled players of all ages. The program is divided into, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions. The para hockey season runs from October through April.

Taking place on the official inception date of Canada’s largest youth charity focused on making sport more affordable and accessible, Para Hockey Alberta’s participation in the 20th anniversary celebration honours Jumpstart’s ongoing commitment to help kids get off the sidelines and into the games and sports they love.
