City crews fix power outage and water main break over the long weekend

Aug 6, 2024 | 1:02 PM

Crews with the City of Red Deer were kept busy over the Civic Holiday (August) long weekend, tending to both a power outage and water main break.

Dean Walker, senior utilities superintendent with the City of Red Deer, says there was a power outage in parts of north Red Deer, mostly in Riverside Meadows, starting around 11:50 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3.

He says the power was restored, however, around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4.

“It affected 900 customers. We found the issue, two power lines were touching each other, but we never did find what caused them to wrap.”

Walker reminds residents that if they see something, they should say something, noting they should also keep themselves safe by avoiding downed power lines and damaged equipment.

To report a power outage during regular business hours: 403-342-8274 (7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

After hours: 403-348-5700 (evenings, weekends, holidays)

Meantime, City crews also tended to a water main break in Red Deer’s Southbrook neighbourhood on Aug. 4.
