Red Deer area sets new record high temperature for September 8

Some areas of central Alberta, including Red Deer, saw record high temperatures set for September 8 over the weekend.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the Red Deer area set a new record of 31.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday, beating the old record of 30.0 set in 1923. Records in this area have been kept since 1904.

Elsewhere, the Rocky Mountain House area set a new record of 29.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday, surpassing the previous record for Sept. 8, of 28.9 degrees Celsius, set in 1981. Records in this area have been kept since 1915.

Also, the Sundre area set a new record high temperature of 29.8 degrees Celsius for Sept. 8, beating the old record of 26.9, set in 2011. Records in this area have been kept since 1993.
