Red Deer County code of conduct bylaw passes first reading
Red Deer County council passed first reading of their new Council Code of Conduct Bylaw unanimously on May 28.
The bylaw is intended to establish ethical conduct standards for council members in relation to their roles and obligations. It includes guidelines for investigating and enforcing these standards as well.
Some of the guidelines for members include interacting respectfully, being mindful of statements made on behalf of the entire council, and proper use of municipal assets and services, among other points of concern.
The bylaw was drafted by Kingsgate Legal, who was contracted to review the existing code of conduct bylaw on March 5, 2024, as a part of the Governance Review Implementation Plan.
