Smile Cookies make happy return to Tim Hortons April 29-May 5

Apr 25, 2024 | 12:05 AM

Smile Cookies are back at local Tim Hortons from April 29-May 5.

In Red Deer, the bulk of proceeds from the sale of each $1.50 cookie will once again support Reading College, a program run by the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools.

“We set up this amazing and fun summer program for kids in Grade 2 where they learn to love reading, and gain the skills to continue their growth as learners. Reading is the foundation for success in school and life. If we can help further develop their skills and instill a love for reading, it creates a lifetime of difference for that child. It will make a difference for them, make a difference for their families and make a difference in their life experiences. That’s the beauty of Reading College,” said Superintendent of Schools, Chad Erickson.

“Last year, we had 67 graduates of the Reading College program who were incredibly engaged and able to excel and improve their reading abilities over the month of July, setting them up for further success.”

On May 4, Red Deer Public has joined with RCMP, Red Deer Emergency Services, and Alberta Sheriffs to put on their annual Smile Cookie Day family event at the Thomlison Avenue location.

Around central Alberta, Smile Cookies will support the following causes:

Sylvan Lake – Sylvan Lake Urgent Care

Blackfalds – Blackfalds Food Bank

Lacombe – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lacombe

Ponoka – Ponoka Youth Centre

Rimbey – Rimbey Boys and Girls Club

Rocky Mountain House – Rocky Health Foundation

Stettler – Stettler Health Services Foundation

Penhold – Penhold Youth Centre

Innisfail – Ecole John Wilson Elementary School

Bowden – Bowden Grandview School Youth Enhancement Fund

Olds – Food Banks of Canada
