WHL determines who’ll pick first in 2024 Prospects and U.S. Priority drafts

In 2024, the Regina Pats will select first overall in the WHL U.S. Priority Draft, while the Everett Silvertips will make the first selection in the WHL Prospects Draft.

The selections were formalized during the draft lottery on Wednesday.

Starting with the U.S. Draft, Regina, who finished last in the Eastern Conference this season, beat out Kamloops, Tri-City, Seattle, Edmonton and Calgary for the right to pick first overall.

The Red Deer Rebels will have the rights to select 15th overall (1st round) and 37th overall (2nd round).

With the Prospects Draft, Prince Albert actually won the lottery, moving from fourth to second overall; PA previously acquired the first-rounder from Seattle.

Everett, who finished third in the Western Conference this regular season, acquired their first-rounder (now 1st overall) from Kamloops, who finished dead last in the league.

The Red Deer Rebels will select 15th overall.

The 2024 WHL U.S. Priority Draft is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, 2024, and will be conducted online at WHL.ca. The 2024 WHL U.S. Priority Draft will consist of two rounds and 44 selections, with each WHL Club presented with the opportunity to have two draft selections.

The 2024 WHL Prospects Draft is scheduled for Thursday, May 9, 2024, with first-round coverage streaming on WHL Live on CHL TV.
