This week in Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics

This week, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball team will kick off the playoffs at home. The RDP Kings Basketball squad will begin its quest for a spot in the ACAC Men’s Final Four Basketball Tournament. The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team will wrap up the regular season with one final home game. The RDP Kings Hockey team will play its final two games at home before the playoffs begin. In Olds, the Kings Volleyball team will compete at the ACAC Men’s Volleyball Championship. The RDP Queens Volleyball team will participate in the ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championship in Lethbridge.

Here is a summary of the games this week:

ACAC Basketball Playoffs

Queens (17-4) vs. Lightning (13-8) | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, February 23 | 7 pm

The RDP Queens will begin the ACAC Women’s Basketball South Division Playoffs against the St. Mary’s University Lightning at home. In the division, the Queens finished second and the Lightning followed in third spot. During regular season competition, the RDP Queens defeated the Lightning twice (80-54 and 74-67).

The winner of this game will advance to the Final Four Championship in Lethbridge.

Kings (12-9) at Clippers (14-7) | Thursday, February 22 | 7 pm

The fourth place Briercrest College Clippers will host the fifth seed RDP Kings in this South Division Playoff game. During the regular season, the Clippers picked up two wins over the Kings in Saskatchewan.

The winner of this contest will play the first place St. Mary’s University Lightning (19-2) to see who advances to the Final Four Championship in Fort McMurray.

Hockey

Queens (18-6) vs Olds (7-17) | Gary W. Harris Canada Game Centre | Saturday, February 24 | 7 pm

The second place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team will host the fifth seed Olds College Broncos in their final regular season game.

The Lakeland College Rustlers (19-4), RDP Queens, NAIT Ooks (17-6) and SAIT Trojans (9-14) have qualified for the playoffs. After the weekend games, the opening round matchups will be finalized.

Kings (14-8) vs Clippers (16-6) | Gary W. Harris Canada Game Centre | Friday, February 23 | 7 pm

Kings vs Clippers | Gary W. Harris Canada Game Centre | Saturday, February 24 | 1 pm

The third seed Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team will host the first place Briercrest College Clippers in two home games. The Kings and Clippers split their two previous regular season games in Saskatchewan.

After a bye week, the RDP Kings will enter this matchup as winners of their past three games and nine of their past 10. Both the Kings and Clippers have already qualified for the playoffs.

ACAC Volleyball Championships

Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (13-6) vs Eagles (16-3) | Thursday, February 22 | 6 pm

The RDP Queens will face The King’s University Eagles in their opening match at the ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championship in Lethbridge. The Queens ranked second in the ACAC South Division during the regular season. The Eagles finished third in the north.

On November 10, the Eagles picked up a home win over the Queens in their only regular season match against one another.

RDP Kings (16-3) vs Eagles (10-9) | Thursday, February 22 | 3 pm

In Olds, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings will challenge The King’s University Eagles in their first match at the ACAC Men’s Volleyball Championship. Over 19 matches, the RDP Kings solidified first in the South Division. The Eagles placed fourth in the north. In November, the Kings defeated the Eagles in four sets.
