RCMP investigating cause of fatal crash west of Wetaskiwin

Central Alberta Mounties are looking into the cause of a fatal crash west of Wetaskiwin Friday afternoon.

On Feb. 9, 2024, at 3:25 p.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP received a report of a serious two vehicle collision on Highway 13 and Range Road 261.

Upon arrival, Mounties say investigators observed a sedan was struck by a ½ ton pick up truck. According to police, emergency crews tended to one of the occupants of the sedan however, he died at scene.

RCMP say the deceased has been identified as a 29-year-old male resident of Maskwacis. The driver of the sedan was taken by STARS to hospital with serious injuries.

Mounties say another passenger of the sedan and the driver of the pickup were taken to hospital by ambulance.

RCMP say they remained on scene for several hours conducting an investigation.

Police say the initial investigation indicates that the sedan was traveling on Range Road 261 and entered Highway 13 where it was struck by the oncoming pickup. The investigation continues.
