A central Alberta man charged after a shooting in Lac La Biche last year has been sentenced to time served.

Chervaine Dean Saddleback, 24, was sentenced in Lac La Biche Court of Justice on Jan. 3, 2024, to 300 days in jail, satisfied by time already served, after pleading guilty to counts of flight from peace officer, and possession of property over $5000. Twelve other charges against him were withdrawn.

It was on May 30, 2023, when Lac La Biche RCMP were dispatched to a firearms complaint where Mounties alleged a male suspect discharged a firearm at a residence. RCMP issued a Shelter in Place for residents in the area.

On May 31, 2023, at 12:55 p.m., Edmonton Police located the suspect and the vehicle in Edmonton, and he was safely taken into custody.

Saddleback, a resident of Lacombe, was initially charged with 12 offences, some of which included:

  • Discharge a firearm
  • Point a firearm
  • Careless use of a firearm
