Innisfail council passes Town’s 2024 budgets

Dec 12, 2023 | 4:15 PM

The Town of Innisfail has approved capital and operating budgets for 2024.

Notably, there will be a 2.8 per cent property tax increase. There were no increases for a few years before a four per cent hike this year, the Town notes.

The increase equates to about $8 monthly for the average citizen’s bill.

Meantime, the operating budget is set at $27,780,667, and the capital budget is at $9,728,000, with zero funds allocated to contingency.

“In the fall of 2023, council reviewed the priorities identified in our strategic plan. The budget that has been approved supports these priorities, as well as ensures the Town of Innisfail continues to deliver the excellent services the community expects,” says Mayor Jean Barclay.

“We have witnessed one of the highest inflationary periods in decades which has been challenging, but Innisfail is experiencing assessment growth, increased economic activity that includes business expansion and new builds, and interest from residential developers. Administration and council are always looking for innovative ways to seek return on invested capital through projects such as the new industrial park and solar project that increase our revenues, thereby lessening the tax burden on residents and businesses.”
