City all-electric John Deere Gators funded by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre

The City of Lacombe has purchased and deployed two all-electric John Deere Gator TEs.

City officials say the all-electric Gators are already part of the City Parks fleet and funded by a grant from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) Electric Vehicles for Municipalities (EVM) project, which assists municipalities across Alberta to lower energy costs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve community resilience.

“The City of Lacombe added two all-electric Gators to our operations, utilizing funding from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre,” Mayor Grant Creasey said. “I am hopeful these units will prove to be efficient and cost-effective. These units will be utilized in our substantial outdoor spaces and will be a welcome addition to those who may be particularly sensitive to traditional vehicles.”

City officials note, the Gator TE Utility Vehicle features a motor powered by a 48-V electrical system. This electrical system is said to allow Parks staff to carry loads, climb hills, and perform evenly until recharge.

“We are fortunate to have these all-electric gators in our fleet. They are quiet, efficient, and environmentally friendly,” said Manager of Parks and Facilities Calvin Bennefield. “They will help us reduce emissions, save on fuel, and reduce maintenance costs. This project is a great example of how we can continue to advance our parks operations while being good stewards of our natural environment.”

City officials say the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre is a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta. Funding for the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities Program was provided by the Government of Alberta.
