Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam

Annual Diwali event comes to Lacombe Nov. 18

Local Diwali celebrations are taking place this year Nov. 18 in Lacombe.

Diwali falls on Nov. 12, but a formal event hosted by the Hindu Cultural Society of Central Alberta (HCSCA) is happening next Saturday at the Lacombe Memorial Centre. Start time is 5 p.m.

There will be cultural performances, a magic show for kids, and an amazing dinner, plus DJ and dancing.

“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is a Sanskrit phrase found in Hindu texts and it is HCSCA’s motto. It means ‘The world is one family,'” says Dharmesh Goradia. “The idea of the phrase remains relevant today as it emphasizes a global perspective, prioritizing the collective well-being over individual or family interests. It encourages to think about the welfare of others, fostering global solidarity and responsibility, and eliminates racism.”
