Toys for tickets

Pay a Red Deer parking ticket with a toy this November

Nov 3, 2023 | 10:03 AM

Although parking metres are now electronic in Red Deer, you may still run into a parking ticket every now and then. But this November, there will be an even better way to pay it off.

The Toys for Tickets program is returning once again this year, allowing those who receive a City-issued parking ticket to donate a toy as payment.

All gifts collected will then be donated in early December to the Red Deer Christmas Bureau for distribution to families in the need within the community.

Toys must be new, in original packaging and unwrapped, and of equal or greater value than the amount owing on the ticket. Ticket holders must also provide an original receipt showing the value of the toy.

Each year, the Christmas Bureau provides a list of popular items on kids’ Christmas lists. The City says this year, toys for girls aged 10-17 are in highest demand.

City officials are also encouraging participants to shop local for the program.

Tickets related to residential snow plowing do not qualify for the program.

Toys can be dropped off at City Hall (4914 48 Ave.) until November 30 during weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For those concerned about finances, visit the Red Deer Christmas Bureau website to see their application requirements for assistance.
