School enrolment numbers are in for 2023, and overall student populations are up pretty much across the board.

“The increase in enrolment in Red Deer Public is welcomed news,” said Superintendent Chad Erickson. “We are proud to welcome all, and to see more families choosing our schools as part of their child’s education journey. We remain dedicated to nurturing each student’s passions, and aspirations while continuing to provide excellence in teaching and learning in every classroom.”

In addition to big increases at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School (62 students), Eastview Middle (43) and Central Middle (39), Red Deer Public welcomed 101 new tuition-paying international students, with 30 more expected in early 2024.

This year, the top countries students are from include Brazil, Belgium, Spain and Germany.

At Red Deer Catholic, the high school population went up by 114. They’ve also seen an increase of 87 new home ed students, up 10 per cent from last year. That’s partially bolstered by a new kindergarten home schooling pilot project.
