Two of three now sentenced in central Alberta kidnapping with firearm incident
Sentencing has taken place for the second of three people charged in an alleged kidnapping with a firearm incident in central Alberta last year.
Amy Natasha Okeymow, 38, of the Samson Cree Nation, was sentenced in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice on Oct. 23, 2023, to 21 months in jail, two years of probation, and a 10-year firearms prohibition. She was convicted on one count of unlawful confinement.
Her sentencing follows that of co-accused, Richard Stanley Soosay, 31, also of Samson Cree Nation, who was sentenced on May 15, 2023, to 90 days in jail and given a lifetime firearms prohibition after being convicted on one count of possession of a prohibited firearm.
The third co-accused, Alexandra Louise Rain, 25, of the Maskwacis area, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice on Dec. 22, 2023, to determine if her case has enough evidence to go to trial.
