Innisfail drug trafficking investigation leads to three arrests

Oct 19, 2023 | 9:56 AM

Three people are being charged in relation to a drug trafficking investigation that began last month based in Innisfail.

Innisfail RCMP enlisted assistance from Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake and Ponoka detachments, as well as Alberta Sheriffs Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Unit to focus on a home in Innisfail, as well as its occupants.

During investigation, suspects were observed actively engaging in what was believed to be drug trafficking, police say.

Then on Oct. 12, RCMP arrested two males in their vehicle, seizing cocaine and drug trafficking paraphernalia. Subsequent to that arrest, a search warrant at a residence on 45 street in Innisfail yielded the arrest of a third person, and the seizure of cocaine, methamphetamine, drug trafficking paraphernalia and two firearms with ammunition.

“This investigation saw the close coordination between different RCMP Detachments and the Alberta Sheriffs Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Unit,“ says Staff Sergeant Ian Ihme, “We are thankful to have interdicted these offenders who were [allegedly] actively engaged in the harmful sales of cocaine and meth in our community.”

Two males, ages 20 and 21, both residents of Innisfail, are being charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine.

A 37-year-old male resident of Innisfail is being charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine.
  • Unsafe storage of firearms.

All three have been released from custody and will appear at the Provincial Court of Justice in Red Deer on Dec. 7, 2023.
