AHS has added a new anesthesiologist to the roster at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

Dr. Jaco Janse van Rensburg, who has spent several years training in South Africa and Ireland, brings the total number of anesthesiologists in Red Deer to 15.

“The recruitment of Dr. Janse van Rensburg will improve access to surgical services for patients in Red Deer and across central Alberta. This is great news for our growing city and surrounding areas,” says Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Health and MLA for Red Deer-North. “Our government continues to work with our partners to recruit physicians to communities across the province, improving access to healthcare services for all Albertans.”

The doctor himself says he’s up for the challenge.

“My family looks forward to make the most of every season and all Alberta has to offer,” says Dr. van Rensburg. “I hope to contribute in a meaningful way to the ongoing need for specialist anesthesia services at Red Deer Regional and become a part of the community.”

AHS says it continues to recruit for physicians across the Central Zone to meet community needs.

“AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities,” the health authority says. “They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.”
