Grand Opening of the Red Deer Dream Centre this week

Jun 6, 2023 | 2:41 PM

The Red Deer Dream Centre (RDDC), an addiction recovery centre for men located in downtown Red Deer, will celebrate its Grand Opening this Friday, June 9, 2023.

Officials say the festivities will begin with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. (4614 50 Ave) which will include several dignitaries including Mayor Ken Johnson, city councilors, Red Deer-South MLA Jason Stephan, and Scott Robinson, CEO of the Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce.

After the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, there will be a Community BBQ from 12:00 Noon – 4:00 p.m. with free burgers and cake, and facility tours, which is open to the public.

In the evening, there will be a Gala event, ‘Sparkles in the Night’, to recognize and thank the facility’s donors, Freedom Funders (RDDC monthly supporters) and supporters.

The Red Deer Dream Centre opened its doors for clients in October 2022 and officials say they are already impacting the community. The project was in the making for over four years.

In 2018, a grassroots movement sprung up when officials say a group of local businessmen felt called to do something with the former Lotus Night Club building in the downtown core of Red Deer. With the significant increase in deaths from opioid addiction, the group felt that an addiction treatment facility for men would be the best way to serve the city from the building.

In 2020, a final construction permit was granted. According to Dream Centre officials, over $1.4 million dollars was raised to pay for the renovations, almost all coming from private donors in central Alberta.

The goal of the Red Deer Dream Centre is for clients to find HELP, HOPE & HEALING, reconnect with their families, and become productive, contributing and purpose-filled members of society.

The Dream Centre welcomes clients coming straight from detox and supports them with housing, as well as individual and group counselling. RDDC will also assist with referrals to housing, education upgrading, and job skill training as they transition back into the community.
