Updated election results: Dreeshen wins Innisfail-Sylvan Lake, Independent Johnson takes Lacombe-Ponoka

May 29, 2023 | 8:01 PM

Innisfail-Sylvan Lake (16 of 17 polls reporting)

UCP – Devin Dreeshen: 16,397 (DECLARED BY CANADIAN PRESS)

NDP – Jason Heistad: 5,724

The Independence Party of Alberta – David Reid: 276

Wildrose Independence Party of Alberta – Jeevan Mangat: 246

Solidarity Movement of Alberta – Brandon Pringle: 143

Reform Party – Randy Thorsteinson: 132

Speaking with rdnewsNOW over the phone on election night, after being declared the winner, Devin Dreeshen says he’s eager to show constituents how the party will make progress on affordability and health care, mentioning the investment in Red Deer hospital expansion.

“First and foremost, I want to thank all the volunteers who came out and helped in this election. It was incredible to see the outpouring of support,” said Dreeshen, then asked about Danielle Smith’s leadership — though as of 10:20 p.m., the election has not been called for either party.

“A great quality she has is that she listens to her caucus and to her cabinet. UCP MLAs who get elected, they represent people from their areas, from their homes, and as a leader, to be able to listen to those voices shows strong political leadership.”
