Innisfail home destroyed by fire Tuesday morning

A family of three is uninjured after fire destroyed their Innisfail home on Tuesday.

A call came in around 11 a.m., says Gary Leith, the Town’s Manager of Fire and Protective Services, about a fire at a detached single family dwelling in the Hazelwood subdivision.

Two adults and a three-year-old were home at the time, but evacuated safely.

Leith says crews arrived to the home fully involved with flames, adding that there was also significant damage to homes directly north and south of the main home. The main home is likely a write-off while the other two will need repairs before they can be lived in again.

The fire also spread to the rear of the home and then west into a field area, which fire fighters also had to extinguish.

“Our crews attended three medical calls today, and two structure fires,” says Leith. “The wind and weather conditions are bad for fires right now, so we ask people to please adhere to the current fire ban to assist in freeing our crews up to deal with these types of very urgent cases.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it has been deemed not suspicious.
