A young boy from Rocky Mountain House who survived a cougar attack last summer will soon be able to enjoy some special privileges at the largest shopping mall in North America.

West Edmonton Mall and Local Environmental Services are proud to welcome 7-year-old Cason Feuser as the next Mayor of the Mall in support of STARS.

Officials with West Edmonton Mall say Cason was provided critical care and transport by STARS to the University of Alberta Hospital in the summer of 2022 after being attacked by a cougar while vacationing at a campsite with family friends near Rocky Mountain House.

Through the life-saving critical care and transport provided by STARS, officials say Cason was able to receive the immediate medical attention needed to kickstart his recovery.

As Mayor of the Mall, Cason and his family will be treated to a one-of-a-kind experience at WEM tailored specifically to his interests, including VIP access to attractions, shopping sprees at his favourite stores, and a night at Fantasyland Hotel.

West Edmonton Mall and Local Environmental Services say they are thrilled to recognize Cason’s bravery and the important medical services that STARS provided to him following the cougar attack and continue to provide daily to communities across Alberta.

“Cason’s courageousness is inspiring,” says Daniel Person, VP Specialty Leasing & Partnerships for West Edmonton Mall. “He showed immense bravery and continues to keep a positive outlook throughout his recovery. We’re so proud to elect Mayor Cason Feuser and hope that his attitude and spirit is a shining example of kids who overcome great challenges in our community.”

“West Edmonton Mall is excited to offer Cason and his family the greatest day ever, and hope he enjoys many other Mayoral privileges for the next year,” adds Person. “Thank you to Local Environmental Services in recognizing another deserving child!”

“We are thrilled to be partners with West Edmonton Mall in the Mayor of the Mall program and are especially proud to support such an inspiring young man who has shown remarkable resilience in the face of adversity,” shares Chris LaBossiere, CEO and Founder of Local Environmental Services. “Cason’s courage and determination following his harrowing experience is truly remarkable, and we are honoured to play a part in having Mayor Feuser enjoy his exciting day at the Mall.”

“We can’t think of a better candidate for Mayor of the Mall than a child as brave as Cason was that horrible day,” states Shell Odenbach, STARS flight nurse and Academy team leader. “It was our pleasure to provide critical care to him when he needed help. On behalf of everyone at STARS, congratulations to Cason on this wonderful honour and we hope he continues to be healthy and happy and show great leadership.”
