A man from Rocky Mountain House, who was wanted on five outstanding warrants, has been arrested in the Rimbey area.

RCMP say it was about 2:15 p.m. on Feb. 8 when an officer who was on patrol came across a stolen pick-up truck being driven by a known and wanted offender.

The officer attempted a vehicle stop but in an apparent effort to evade, police say, the driver and vehicle fled and drove into the ditch, becoming stuck.

The driver, who was the sole occupant, then fled on foot into a wooded area.

Shortly after, the suspect was taken into custody with help from RCMP Police Dog Services, which included him sustaining minor injuries.

The 23-year-old man also had a driving prohibition order and a release court order.

He faces the following new charges:

  • 2 counts of possession of stolen property (stolen Truck and Trailer)
  • 8 counts of failure to comply with conditions from a release court order
  • fail to comply with conditions of a probation order
  • flight from police
  • resisting arrest
  • possession of a ammunitions contrary to court order
  • driving while prohibited
  • driving a motor vehicle without insurance

After a judicial interim release hearing, the man was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Ponoka provincial court on Feb. 10.
