Bowden man arrested on drug and gun charges stemming from Olds

A Bowden man faces nine charges after a police investigation that started last December.

RCMP in Olds say they began investigating a man who was allegedly selling drugs from a local business.

On Feb. 2, 2023, various departments helped execute search warrants a a business in Olds and a home in Bowden.

As a result, RCMP seized:

· 77 grams on suspected Cocaine Methamphetamine

· 69 grams of suspected Fentanyl

· 2.5 grams of suspected Heroin

· 1,354.75 grams of Cannabis

· 10 grams of Cannabis resin

· Small amounts of Metronidazole, Adderall, Codeine, Lyrica, Cyclobenzaprine, Lorazepam, Hydro Morphine, LSD

· 18 grams of Psilocybin

· 1 Shotgun

· 1 replica firearm

· 8 Pellet guns

· A taser device

· 60 assorted edged weapons

RCMP have since charged Lyle Andrus, 60, a resident of Bowden, with:

· Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x3)

· Unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon or restricted weapon (x4)

· Offences under the Cannabis Act (x2)

Andrus was released on bail with a next court appearance of March 6 in Didsbury.

“There are concerns that drug activity has gone up in the community with two recent drugs seizures,” says Staff Sergeant Warren Wright, Detachment Commander, Olds RCMP.

“Drug activity has not gone up but rather RCMP have successfully concluded two drug investigations resulting in local residents being charged with offences as well as large seizures of drugs and weapons. The RCMP are working very hard to ensure that community safety.”
