Rate of new influenza cases in AHS Central Zone remains low over the past week

The rate of new influenza cases, hospitalizations, ICU admissions and flu-related deaths in the AHS Central Zone have remained low once again over the past week.

According to Alberta Health, there are currently 1,042 cases of influenza confirmed in the Central Zone as of January 28, 2023, up four over the last seven days.

Hospitalizations in the Central Zone due to the flu have risen to 231, up three from the week before.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admissions remain at 24 this week, while the number of deaths related to the flu in the Central Zone increased by two to 21 so far this season.

Elsewhere throughout the province, the Calgary Zone has 2,935 cases of influenza with 753 hospitalizations, 83 ICU admissions and 31 deaths.

The Edmonton Zone has 2,484 cases of influenza, 553 hospitalizations, 55 ICU admissions, and 22 flu-related deaths.

The North Zone currently has 1,553 cases of influenza, 250 hospitalizations, 25 ICU admissions, and 13 deaths.

The South Zone has 676 cases of influenza as of Jan. 28, with 204 hospitalizations, 21 ICU admissions, and 18 flu-related deaths.
