Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team seize drugs and weapons; charges laid

Red Deer RCMP have not only arrested and charged a man, but have seized drugs and weapons following a lengthy investigation.

In July 2022, Red Deer RCMP say they received information concerning criminal activity at an address in the neighbourhood of Upper Fairview, leading their Crime Reduction Team (CRT) to launch an investigation.

On Nov. 23, 2022, they state the CRT, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Red Deer RCMP Police Dog Service (PDS), and Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), executed a search warrant at a residence.

The search resulted in the seizure of the following:

  • Over 77 grams of Methamphetamine
  • Over 220 grams of Fentanyl
  • 350 mL of Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (GHB)
  • Numerous items of stolen property
  • A restricted firearm

Further investigation led to the arrest of a Red Deer man who was located by the CRT on Jan. 12, 2023.

He has been charged with 12 Criminal offences, including the following:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of GHB
  • Possession of a restricted firearm
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Possession of stolen Canada Border Services Agency ID Badge

A Judicial Interim Release (JIR) hearing was held and the man was kept in custody, to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Jan. 13, 2023.

Red Deer RCMP CRT say they continue to investigate this matter and further charges are anticipated.

“The Red Deer RCMP is fully committed to building safer communities, and continues to enforce laws to their fullest extent, in order to achieve this goal. Members of the public who suspect drug activity in their community are encouraged to contact their local RCMP detachment,” officials said in a release.
