Smith’s sovereignty act a power grab: NDP deputy leader
Nov 30, 2022 | 9:08 AM
The NDP Opposition, Indigenous leaders and a business group say they have concerns about the Smith government’s proposed sovereignty act.
NDP deputy leader Sarah Hoffman says the bill is a flagrant undemocratic power grab by a premier who has not sought a popular mandate to propose such sweeping changes.
The Calgary Chamber of Commerce says the act will impede new investment in the province, reduce certainty and stability, and create challenges for businesses to attract and retain talent.
Chiefs of Treaty 6 and Treaty 8 First Nations say they remain opposed to the act.
