Cowboy Kicks seeks 2023 Charity of Choice for grant

Nov 22, 2022 | 5:01 PM

Not-for-profits in Alberta are being invited to apply for funding through the Westerner Foundation Cowboy Kicks grant program.

Officials say the Westerner Foundation Cowboy Kicks Grant will be allocating a portion of the net proceeds from the 2023 Cowboy Kicks event to an organization who demonstrates support of the pillars and outcomes of the Westerner Foundation in central Alberta.

“Not only is Cowboy Kicks a major fundraiser for the Westerner Foundation, it also provides support to an Albertan not-for-profit to support events or arts, sports or cultural initiatives,” said Kathy Lacey, Cowboy Kicks Chair. “We recognize the important contribution made by organizations in the provision of culture and western heritage in central Alberta, and we are proud to extend our support to organizations that support our western culture and rural heritage.”

Uniquely Western, arts meets west at the Cowboy Kicks fundraiser as various-sized fibreglass cowboy boots, hand-painted by Albertan artists, are auctioned off, alongside a western-style stand-up buffet, beverages and live performances for guests. The fundraiser chooses a new designated charity each year.

The Westerner Foundation, created in January 2021, aims to promote, fundraise, and invest in initiatives to support the future sustainability of Westerner Park with the goal of enhancing the quality of life for central Albertans, advance the agriculture industry, and generate economic benefit for the community.

Not-for-profit organizations, in good standing with the Societies Act of Alberta, who deliver arts, sports, and cultural initiatives in central Alberta, as well as Indigenous organizations or organizations supporting Indigenous activities, are eligible to apply.

Applications are being accepted until December 8, 2022. A grant guide and online application are available.
