RECORD-TYING WIN STREAK!
With two more victories this past weekend, the Red Deer Rebels have tied a franchise record by winning seven straight games to begin the season. That equals the mark set by the Memorial Cup winning squad from 2000-01.
Fri. Oct. 15 – Ben King had a triumphant season debut with two power play goals and an assist to lead the Rebels to a 4-2 road win over the Moose Jaw Warriors. Captain Jayden Grubbe also had a big night with a goal and two assists. Kai Uchacz also scored once while Kyle Kelsey made 27 saves for his fifth win. Red Deer was 3-for-7 on the power play and held Moose Jaw to 0-for-3. The Rebels outshot the Warriors 39-29.
Sat. Oct. 16 – Kai Uchacz scored with just over two minutes left to play as the Rebels pulled out a 4-3 come from behind road win over the Swift Current Broncos. Jhett Larson and Matteo Fabrizi also scored for Red Deer while Ollie Josephson tipped home his first WHL goal in the second period. Kyle Kelsey was once again superb with 28 saves, including two more breakaway stops, and earned first star honours. Red Deer outshot Swift Current 34-30 on the night and was 0-for-5 on the power play while Swift Current was 1-for-4.
