Glencross Invitational is back in Red Deer: on ice

The Glencross Invitational is back in Red Deer but this year it’s happening on ice.

On October 19, teams will hit the ice for a Charity Hockey Camp at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre (120 College Cir) before putting it all on the table for a poker event at Westerner Park (4847A 19 St).

All proceeds will be donated to the Hockey Alberta Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta.

Previously the Glencross Invitational Bronc Riding, the committee says they chose to send the broncs to pasture and instead feature a charity hockey camp.

“We’re happy to be back to host an event in partnership with the Hockey Alberta Foundation in support of charities across Alberta,” said Curtis Glencross. “After a two year hiatus, we chose to transition to a charity hockey camp to give sponsors an opportunity to participate in the event and play alongside some of their hockey idols, while making an impact on kids throughout the province.”

Officials say four teams, each consisting of 15 skaters and one goalie, will face-off for the Glencross Charity Camp Championship, with players lining up next to some of the best to ever play the game. They state five celebrities are scheduled to participate on each team.

Spots on the team were available for purchase and tickets to watch the action unfold are still available. Puck-drop for the first game is at 9 a.m.

Following the tournament, the cards will be shuffled and the chips ready as sponsors and celebrities take their seat at the table for the 9th annual Glencross Celebrity Charity Poker Event.

More information on sponsorship opportunities are available on their website.
