Province celebrates inaugural Alberta Day

Aug 31, 2022 | 4:00 PM

September 1, 2022 is the first annual Alberta Day.

As a result, there are many events taking place across the province this weekend to celebrate all things Alberta and recognize what makes the province unique, its people, history and spirit.

Join in on the Alberta Day celebrations:

  • Edmonton: Sept. 1 – 3 at Alberta Legislature Grounds (10800 97 Ave NW)
  • Calgary: Sept. 2 – 3 at Prince’s Island Park (698 Eau Claire Avenue SW)
  • And more than 30 municipalities across the province on Sept. 3 (list available on Alberta.ca/AlbertaDay)

Find a celebration close to you and visit each community’s website for more details. Central Alberta communities participating include Blackfalds, Lacombe, Olds, and Sylvan Lake.

There’s something for everyone!

The Alberta Day weekend will be packed with activities and entertainment, including a made-in-Alberta marketplace, live performances from local artists, activities for kids of all ages, and a beer garden.

Last but not least, celebrations wrap-up with fireworks and a free concert with country superstar Brett Kissel in both Calgary and Edmonton.

Check out the event schedule and learn more about Alberta Day at Alberta.ca/AlbertaDay.

Alberta Day is described as a celebration of everything Alberta, from the past to the present. If you can’t get out to an event, you’re encouraged to celebrate in your own way:

Alberta became a province on September 1, 1905. In recognition of this anniversary and in celebration of the province’s unique spirit, culture and heritage, the government has designated September 1 as Alberta Day.
