Sylvan Lake golfer has historic performance at Canada Summer Games in Niagara

Sylvan Lake golfer Logan Graf had himself an historic performance at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara on Thursday.

Graf broke a new low single-round score in Canada Games history as he fired a 7- under-par 65 Thursday at the Legends on the Niagara Golf Course-Battlefield Course. Round 3 takes place Friday.

Elsewhere, on the volleyball court, Team Alberta finished the third day of week 2 at the Games with an impressive lead up in Thursday’s preliminary game versus British Columbia. Adding to Thursday’s excitement was a whole volleyball legacy team in the bleachers. Officials note, the men’s volleyball team has grown up playing the sport together as the fathers of Aaron Elser, Mark Edwards, Reeve Gingera, Logan and Mason Greves all played together on Canada’s men’s national volleyball team.

In addition to this, both Gingera and Greves also played on the men’s volleyball team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Summer Games. With all this legacy supporting them on the sidelines the men’s team won 3-0 over team BC. on Thursday.

The women’s volleyball team followed the men’s victory in the preliminary rounds Thursday versus team BC, as they played an impressive game winning over with a score of 3-0.

Meantime, the women’s road cycling went off with a bang Thursday as all of Team Alberta’s women led the pack in the first laps of the race. In the last lap, Team Alberta’s Anabelle Thomas (Calgary) broke out and chased down Team Quebec to the finish sweeping the silver medal at the Games. Saturday will be the last event for cycling as they take on the criterium event at Brock University.

Team Alberta’s Kristiane Free (Calgary) paddled hard in the women’s K-1 200m event Thursday as she finishes with a bronze medal for Team Alberta.

Alberta currently sits in fourth position in the medal standings with 72 medals (25 Gold, 20 Silver and 27 Bronze).

Sports taking place Friday, August 19 include:

Canoe/Kayak Qualifications & Finals, Golf Men’s individual, Golf Women’s individual and Mix Team, Athletics, Sailing, Men’s Box Lacrosse (AB vs. NB), Softball (AB vs. ON) and (AB vs. NS).

Team Alberta Highlights on Day 13 included:

o Kristiane Free: Women’s K-1 200m.
