Calgary man charged after stolen dirtbike collision in Trochu

Jul 7, 2022 | 9:23 AM

A man from Calgary has been charged after police allege he hit somebody with a dirtbike.

RCMP say it was at about 2:30 p.m. on July 1 when Three Hills detachment members were dispatched to an MVC in Trochu involving a dirtbike and a pedestrian.

It was determined that the collision had occurred on Elevator Road, and that the rider had fled the scene.

The pedestrian, meantime, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. Police then located the dirtbike driver at a nearby home, where he was arrested.

Police also obtained a search warrant for the detached garage of the residence, from which they seized a 2015 KTM XCW dirtbike, which had been involved in the collision. The RCMP Auto Theft Unit later examined the dirtbike and determined it was stolen from Calgary.

The 31-year-old man faces several counts, including:

· Failure to stop after accident resulting in bodily harm

· Operation while prohibited

· Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

· Drive Off-Highway vehicle on highway without authorization

· Drive uninsured Off-Highway vehicle

The man was released on conditions to appear in Drumheller provincial court on Aug. 19, 2022.
