Stay of proceedings in central Alberta shooting incident

Jun 23, 2022 | 12:47 PM

There has been a stay of proceedings for two men charged in what RCMP allege was an attempted murder in Maskwacis last winter.

This means criminal proceedings against Kashton Fearious Bull, 22, of the Louis Bull Tribe, and Christian Deschamps, 18, of the Ermineskin Cree Nation, have been put on hold indefinitely.

On Feb. 26, 2022, at around 5 a.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP were dispatched to a local hospital where two males had been dropped off suffering from gunshot wounds.

Members were told the shooting had taken place in the Louis Bull Tribe area of Maskwacis.

Two suspects were identified, one of which remained at-large.

On March 11, Kashton Bull was arrested and charged with:

  • Attempted murder (X2)
  • Discharge of a firearm while being reckless
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
  • Breach of a firearms prohibition
  • Fail to comply with a release order (X4)

Christian Deschamps, meanwhile, was wanted on charges of:

  • Attempted murder (X2)
  • Discharge of a firearm while being reckless
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized

Mounties say Christian Deschamps attended the Edmonton Police Service Downtown Division building on April 5, 2022 and turned himself in on the outstanding arrest warrant.
