A 27-year-old man from Barrhead is facing several charges following his arrest in east central Alberta this week.

Coronation RCMP say it was on June 7 when they received a complaint of three suspects observed on video stealing copper wire in Flagstaff County.

The truck involved was followed by a complainant to a field near the Diplomat Mine on Highway 855 just north of Halkirk, police say. The suspects were pulling a 16-foot trailer which unhooked and wound up in a ditch, according to RCMP.

“Coronation RCMP officers attended and learned that a suspects had fled the truck into the field. Red Deer Police Dog Service attended and were able to assist in tracking and arresting a suspect without incident,” RCMP say in a release. “The other two suspects are still at-large but were observed later in the day in Veteran and Consort.”

The Barrhead man was remanded and is set to appear in a Coronation courtroom on June 10.

His charges include:

· Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000 (x2)

· Possession of a Prohibited Weapon

· Possession of a Prohibited Weapon while on a Prohibition Order

· Possession of Methamphetamine

· Fail to Comply with Release order (x5)

“In a small community the problems associated with property related crimes are amplified. As part of our Rural Crime Reduction Strategy we encourage members of the public/businesses to report suspicious activity,” RCMP add. “With the assistance of the community we were able to locate a suspect who fled from the stolen truck on foot that was observed on video stealing copper wire.”

Police did not provide descriptions of the other two suspects.
