Celebrating Seniors’ Week

After much time apart, Seniors’ Week 2022 is described as an opportunity to recognize seniors up close and in person.

Seniors and Housing Minister Josephine Pon officially declared the 36th edition of this Alberta tradition on June 6, during the provincial launch event in the Town of Taber.

“Seniors’ Week is one of my favourite times of the year, and I am excited that we will recognize and celebrate seniors in person, at gatherings all over Alberta. I look forward to meeting seniors and sharing in their wisdom, experience and knowledge,” said Pon.

“It is an honour to celebrate our seniors during the first week of June with Seniors’ Week,” added Grant Hunter, MLA for Taber-Warner. “Seniors built this great province we call home, so it is only appropriate to show them the respect they have earned through years of service to our communities. Happy Seniors’ Week.”

“The Town of Taber is honoured to be co-hosts with the Government of Alberta for the provincial launch of Seniors’ Week,” shared Andrew Prokop, mayor, Town of Taber. “Countless seniors have helped make our communities vibrant, and we are excited to celebrate their contributions. Thank you to all seniors in Taber and throughout Alberta who have made and continue to make our community and province a great place to grow.”

Seniors’ Week, which continues through June 12, recognizes and celebrates all that older Albertans have contributed to making our families, communities and province stronger. In recognition of the importance of this event to seniors and older adults, Alberta’s government has proclaimed, in perpetuity, the first full week of June as Seniors’ Week in Alberta.

In Taber, seniors will enjoy a pancake breakfast, live music and a visit from Minister Pon, Taber-Warner MLA Grant Hunter and other dignitaries.

From pancake breakfasts and morning strawberry teas to evening barbecues and formal dinners, there are events to celebrate Seniors’ Week all over the province this week.

Provincial museums are also offering free admission to all seniors during Seniors’ Week.
