A Sylvan Lake resident is facing charges after allegedly getting into a confrontation with RCMP this week.

On May 16, 2022, shortly before 5:00 pm, Fort Saskatchewan RCMP received a report of a male stumbling into traffic while crossing a bridge on Highway 15 near Fort Saskatchewan.

Police say a member of the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP located the male walking on the side of the highway. Mounties say the male refused to identify himself and then became verbally and physically confrontational. A physical altercation ensued, resulting in minor injuries to the police officer. With the assistance of another police officer and a passerby who stopped to assist, the adult male was taken into custody, say RCMP.

A 22-year-old man from Sylvan Lake has been charged with assaulting a police officer and obstructing a police officer. According to police, he was also arrested on outstanding warrants from Edmonton, Calgary and Red Deer.
