United Way Central Alberta raises $1.86 million

Mar 17, 2022 | 4:38 PM

United Way Central Alberta (UW) collected $1.86 million during its most recent annual fundraising campaign.

The amount was announced Thursday during a virtual wind-up event, and is just higher than 2020’s $1.83 million raised.

CEO Brett Speight says the fact they still raised that much in a virtual-based campaign is awe-inspiring.

“The need every year, and especially in light of COVID, has continued to grow. We know things have been tough for businesses and individuals, so to see the community step up and support the campaign, ensuring we’re able to continue to support the programs that our partner agencies run, it’s really inspiring,” he says. “We knew going into this campaign we may have to do a lot of stuff virtually, and it’s always tougher to engage that way.”

Speight also touched on the UW’s ongoing review of its community strategy, which will see the organization look at how to assist local agencies in a variety of different and improved ways.

He says there are no specifics as of yet, but UW hopes to have a new plan in place for fall 2022.
