Rimbey RCMP recover stolen vehicles and firearms

A Sylvan Lake man is facing numerous charges after police seized multiple firearms from a stolen motorhome in Rimbey on Monday.

It happened on Jan. 3, at 2:00 am when Rimbey RCMP located a stolen vehicle and RV parked in a church parking lot in Rimbey.

Rimbey RCMP with the assistance of Sylvan Lake, Breton/Thorsby RCMP detachments, and Red Deer Police Dog Services conducted a search and located a 37 year-old man in a nearby home.

Mounties say a search of the stolen motorhome revealed seven stolen firearms, as well as other stolen property.

The suspect has been charged with seven counts of failing to comply with release order conditions, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, two counts of possession of firearm in motor vehicle, and one count each of possession of weapon obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of weapon contrary to order, and flight from police.

He was also charged with two counts of driving while unauthorized.

RCMP say the suspect has been remanded in custody, with his next court appearance set for Jan. 5, 2022 in Wetaskiwin provincial court by CCTV.
