A local man has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of another man in Red Deer earlier this week.

On Dec. 29, Red Deer RCMP responded to a homicide at an apartment on 55 Street in Red Deer. Upon arrival, police located a deceased 66 year-old Red Deer resident.

Benjamin William Rabbit, 27, of Red Deer, was immediately taken into police custody and brought back to the Red Deer detachment. Mounties say Rabbit and the deceased were known to each other.

As a result of further investigation into the incident by the RCMP Major Crimes Unit, Rabbit has been remanded in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for Jan. 4 in Red Deer provincial court, via CCTV.
