The Town of Ponoka is once again organizing a community self-guided Christmas Lights Tour, which will launch on Monday, Dec. 6.

“Every year, there are many citizens in Ponoka who put an exceptional amount of effort into their Christmas lights. We thought organizing a self-guided Christmas Lights Tour again this year would be a great family-fun activity that many people would enjoy,” said Sandra Lund, Chief Administrative Officer at the Town of Ponoka.

Citizens are encouraged to contact the Town of Ponoka by Dec. 1 if they would like to enter their home in the community’s Christmas Lights Tour. Their location will then be added to the tour map which will be posted on the Town website at www.ponoka.ca and on social media by Dec. 6.

To enter in the Christmas Lights Tour, residents can call 403-783-0131 or email recreation@ponoka.ca to provide their name, address and confirm their interest in entering their home in the tour.

One stop along the tour will be The Lions Centennial Park light display. With a $5,000 donation by the Ponoka Lions Club, the Park light display was able to be bigger and brighter this year, say Town officials.

While soaking in the beautiful Christmas lights display, citizens will also be able to skate along the trail that winds through Centennial Park. Over the coming weeks, weather permitting, the Ponoka Regional Fire Department will be working with Town crews to build the outdoor skating trail.

Another stop along the lights tour is the Town’s Christmas tree, which features 2,200 festive lights and sits in the heart of the community at the Downtown Skating Plaza at 5110-48 Avenue. The oval rink at the skating plaza will once again surround the Town’s Christmas tree, where citizens can lace up their skates and enjoy the holiday season. Installation of the skating plaza is currently underway.

An announcement will be posted to the Town’s website at www.ponoka.ca and on social media when the skating trail and rink have opened.
