Trudeau: Canada’s First Separatist Prime Minister, Jason Stephan
A. Equalization is Manipulated.
Section 36(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982 (Canada) references the “principle of making equalization payments”.
The Act was enacted under Pierre Trudeau. Ironically, Quebec, the principal taker of equalization payments, refused to sign the Constitution. If Quebec refused to sign, why are they getting equalization payments under it?
The Act does not specify how this principle of equalization is to be applied. Those important “details” are calculated under a “formula” manipulated by politicians. A mere “amendment” to a political formula today, does not protect Alberta from plunder by unprincipled politicians tomorrow.
