COVID-19 hospitalizations and ICU admissions continue slow decline

Red Deer now sits at 382 active cases of COVID-19, down 21 from Thursday.

Meantime, the city’s total number of recorded cases is up 16 to 8,860 in the last day, while recoveries are up 37 to 8,405.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is 73 with none reported today.

LOOK-BACK: On this day one year ago, there were 157 total cases of COVID-19 recorded in the city (+15 over the previous week), with 32 active cases (+1) and zero deaths.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,940 active cases as of Friday, down 83 from Thursday. There are 168 hospitalizations, down six, with 20 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday.

The Central Zone has had 346 deaths linked to COVID-19, with four reported today.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Oct. 21 is 8.78 per cent with 1,333 tests done.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 656 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 10,732 tests.

That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of 6.96 per cent. Active cases across the province are down 397 to 10,037.

-59.43 per cent are unvaccinated

There are 889 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 23, including 191 in intensive care, down 10.

Of the 698 not in ICU, 426 are unvaccinated, 62 have one dose, and 210 have two doses.

Of the 191 in ICU, 156 are unvaccinated, 10 have one dose, and 25 have two doses.

The province’s death toll is now listed as 3,026, meaning 12 more deaths have been reported since yesterday.

VACCINATIONS

Across the province, 86.4 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (73.5% total population), and 78.3 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (66.6% total population).

A total of 6,424,188 have been administered, up 18,011 in the last 24 hours. A total of 228,280 Albertans have now received a third dose.

In Red Deer, 71,982 (78.5% of eligible & 67.7% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 102 in the last day.

Meanwhile, 65,150 (71.1%/61.2%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 269 in one day. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
