Active cases in Red Deer drop 1/3rd over past week, city up to 72 deaths

Red Deer now sits at 535 active cases of COVID-19, down 23 from Thursday.

That’s also down 262 or 32.9 per cent over the last seven days, after the city peaked at 915 on Sept. 27.

Meantime, the city’s total number of recorded cases is up 44 to 8,671 in the last day, while recoveries are up 65 to 8,064.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is 72 with two reported today.

LOOK-BACK: On this day one year ago, there were 142 total cases of COVID-19 recorded in the city (+27 over the previous week), with 31 active cases (+24) and zero deaths.

The Central Zone as a whole has 2,562 active cases as of Friday, down 83 from Thursday. There are 177 hospitalizations, down six, with 14 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday.

The Central Zone has had 321 deaths linked to COVID-19, with three reported today.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Oct. 14 is 14.35 per cent with 1,603 tests done.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 1,051 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 14,054 tests.

That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of 8.1 per cent. Active cases across the province are down 445 to 12,978.

There are 1,000 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 16, including 229 in intensive care, down two.

Of the 771 not in ICU, 471 are unvaccinated, 81 have one dose, and 219 have two doses.

Of the 229 in ICU, 193 are unvaccinated, 11 have one dose, and 25 have two doses.

The province’s death toll is now listed as 2,946, which means 16 more deaths have been reported since yesterday.

VACCINATIONS

Across the province, 85.8 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (73.0% total population), and 76.7 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (65.3% total population).

A total of 6,304,054 have been administered, up 23,040 in the last 24 hours.

In Red Deer, 71,369 (77.9% of eligible & 67.1% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 142 in the last day.

Meanwhile, 63,403 (69.2%/59.6%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 258 in one day. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
