Visually striking and community oriented
Natural light in common areas makes the building a cold winter respite
Multipurpose and flexible with interior and exterior spaces for people to gather and socialize

A place for people, community and wellness

Four potential public art opportunities have been identified for the centre:

1. Entryway and flow through concepts as 2D or 3D mural or sculptural artwork that can be securely fastened to walls and enjoyed as visitors move through the main corridor as a journey or additive experience.

2. Upper level: 2D text-based materials (vinyl or other highly wear-resistant material) that illustrates positive, inclusive and inspiring textual content.

3. Sculptural seating hub around beams: whimsical, organically shaped seating containing natural greenery and a conversation area, located in the main corridor.

4. Secondary entryway and flow through concept that uses inlaid flooring material of commercial grade and surrounding wall or ceilings, viewed as visitors move through the space through play and imagination.

Applications from artists who self-identify as a member of one or more First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit communities will be prioritized for one or more pieces of the facility’s public art collection. These specific pieces should be created in a manner that is culturally appropriate to the peoples of this region.

Indigenous artwork concepts should consider the significant cultural heritage and legacy of this area, the rich histories, stories and customs that tell of this place, and indigenous perspectives.

Shortlisted artists will receive a stipend of $750 to submit a proposal and give a 15-minute virtual presentation to the Public Art Commission on November 10, 2021, between 5-7 p.m. MST.

1. Professional experience, CV, biography

2. Portfolio of past projects relevant to this project

3. Letter of interest outlining possible approach to this project

4. Artist statement and philosophy towards public art

Submission deadline: September 30, 2021 at 4 p.m.

Late submissions are not permitted. Submissions that do not meet the mandatory requirements will be disqualified and not evaluated further. Applications are accepted online only, through the online eprocurement tool bids&tendersTM.
