Central Zone hits one-day 11.05% positivity rate

Red Deer now has 76 active cases of COVID-19, up seven from Wednesday.

Recoveries rose two to 5,765, as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by nine in the last day to 5,884.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The Central Zone as a whole has 292 active cases as of Thursday, up 46. There are 18 hospitalizations, up three, and five people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up two. The Central Zone has had 171 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Aug. 11 is 11.05 per cent with 507 tests done. That’s the highest one-day mark since May 24. The zone’s current seven-day average positivity rate is 6.79 per cent.

To contrast, Calgary Zone’s positivity rate for Aug. 11 was 5.3 per cent, Edmonton Zone was 6.06, Noth Zone was 18.16, and South Zone was 8.12.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Today, Alberta added 550 new cases of COVID-19. The new cases are out of 8,585 test results for a seven-day positivity rate of 5.47 per cent.

The active caseload is now 4,101, up 332 in the last day.

Of those, 3,197 are variants of concern.

There are 146 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, up eight, including 36 in intensive care, up five.

Of the 146 in hospital, 117 (85 non-ICU/32 ICU) are unvaccinated. Another 11 are in hospital with just one dose.

Zero new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day, meaning the provincial death toll sits at 2,331.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 5,415,497 vaccine doses as of Aug. 11, up just 9,145 in the last day.

76.6 (+0.1) per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (65.2% total population), and 67.4 (+0.2) per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (57.3% total population)..

In Red Deer, 61,810 (67.4% of eligible & 58.1% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 36 in the last day. Meanwhile, 54,820 (59.8%/51.5%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 90. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
