CASASC gets big donation from latest Burger of the Month

Cilantro and Chive are reporting heavy burger consumption this summer, sharing the latest Burger of the Month (BOTM) totals for their Red Deer location.

Their July BOTM was known as the “Summer Smash”, designed by guest chefs Matt and Andy Cassidy of Beyond Insurance. Two dollars from each burger sold supported the Cassidys’ charity of choice, the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre (CASASC).

Thanks to community support, $1,835 was raised for CASASC, with Matt and Andy donating an additional $1,000.

While raising a young family, the Cassidys have had the chance to get to know Patricia Arango, executive director at CASASC, and they believe in the centre’s commitment to education and an open dialogue around respect, consent, communication, and sexual violence.

Though never personally affected by sexual assault or sexual violence, Andy says, “We have come to really understand the value and importance of consent education and talking to children about their body and rights. The work that CASASC does around counselling and support for sexual assault victims (adults and children) is so valuable. We are proud of the work they do.”

In August, at Cilantro and Chive’s Red Deer location, the BOTM collaboration is with local guest chef Becca Swanson.

Two dollars from every “Give a Mile” burger will go directly towards the Give a Mile Foundation, an organization which helps people visit critically-ill loved ones using donations of Air Miles.

In the past 54 months, Cilantro and Chive have given back more than $85,000 to local charities through their BOTM program.
