Deadly house fire near Buck Lake deemed non-suspicious

Breton RCMP say the investigation into a deadly house fire earlier this month near Buck Lake has determined the incident to be non-suspicious.

It was about 11 a.m. on June 2 when first responders attended the blaze at a home in the area of Township Road 465 and Range Road 63.

Upon entry to the property, RCMP officers who were investigating a separate occurrence nearby, were told there were two kids trapped inside.

Members tried to rescue the children, but the extent of the fire rendered that impossible.

Sadly, the one-year-old boy and four-year-old girl, both from Drayton Valley, passed away.

Multiple volunteer fire departments worked to extinguish the blaze, and part of the investigation was handed over the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unite.

No further updates are expected.
