Report of man with gun at Drayton Valley school a false alarm: RCMP

Mounties say a report of a man with a gun near a Drayton Valley school on Wednesday proved to be a false alarm.

It was just before noon when police received a report of a male with a gun at St. Anthony School.

Drayton Valley RCMP attended and upon further investigation it was learned that a youth had been carrying a broom that a younger student had mistaken for a firearm.

The investigation involved a search of the entire school and no firearms were located on the property.

Both schools in Drayton Valley have since been taken out of lockdown.
