Red Deer down to 301 active cases of COVID-19

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count is down another 30 to 301 in the last day.

After hitting a record high active caseload of 911 on May 8 (21 days ago), the active caseload has sunk 67 per cent, including 42 per cent over the past seven days.

Recoveries sit at 5,238, an increase of 48 over the last day as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 18 to 5,578. The number of deaths in Red Deer linked to COVID-19 is 39, with none reported since May 19.

In the past week, the city has added just 122 cases, with 340 recoveries, and zero deaths.

According to the province’s interactive vaccination map, 53,136 (49.9%* of) Red Deer residents have received at least one dose of vaccine. The minimum one-dose total includes 9,663 (9.1%*) people who are fully vaccinated. (*based of AB Gov’t population of 106,395 for Red Deer)

Last Saturday, 49,804 Red Deer residents had at least one dose, and 8,164 (7.67%*) were fully vaccinated.

The Central Zone has 1,002 as of Saturday, a drop of 64. There are 55 hospitalizations, up three, and 14 people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up two. The zone has had 154 deaths, with none reported today.

Over the last seven days, Central Zone’s active caseload has gone down 625 from 1,627.

Hospitalizations have gone from 56 to 55, while the number of patients in ICU at Red Deer Regional went from 10 to 14.

PROVINCE

Province-wide, Alberta confirmed 406 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. That’s out of 6,882 test results for a positivity rate of ~5.9 per cent.

Active cases in the province total 8,474, down 286 in the last 24 hours. Recoveries are up to 216,167, with a total of 226,855 cases confirmed in Alberta since the pandemic began.

There are 478 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, down 39 from Friday, including 140 in intensive care, down seven.

Eight additional deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total to 2,214. The latest deaths include:

· Date of death: 5/13/2021. A male in his 60s in the North zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: 5/21/2021. A male in his 70s in the Calgary zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: 5/23/2021. A female in her 80s in the Edmonton zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: 5/24/2021. A male in his 30s in the Edmonton zone. There are no known comorbidities at this time.

· Date of death: 5/27/2021. A male in his 50s in the Calgary zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: 5/28/2021. A female in her 50s in the Edmonton zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: 5/28/2021. A male in his 70s in the North zone. The case included comorbidities.

Alberta has administered 2,720,687 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of May 28. 61.5 per cent of the eligible population (ages 12+) has received at least one dose, while 10 per cent is fully vaccinated. More vaccination data is here.

In the last week, Alberta has administered 259,830 doses of vaccine for a daily average of 37,118, down from the previous week’s record average of 53,466.
